The Story

Tarangire National Park. 22 Sept. 2024. We were trying to photograph a group of guinea fowl (who were hugely uncooperative), when a red and black head popped up in the background. And another one. Far away, but we had time, and the guinea fowl were moving to a less grassy area, into view, so we waited for the newcomers.

It turned out to be three southern ground hornbills, foraging for insects or other small animals, jumping to a tasty snack every once in a while. They ambled towards the car, ignoring us and the guinea fowl. One by one, they deftly stept into the road, followed it for a bit, and then crossed over. And then disappeared behind a bush.
